Childcare solutions used & satisfaction

If you needed childcare in the past 10 years, what childcare solutions (e.g., childcare center/nursery, nanny, family support, adjusted work schedule, etc.) did your family end up using? Are you satisfied with the availability of childcare options in your country of employment, why or why not?

We use family support. My parents can stay with us at our house to be able to help out with chores and cooking. We also hire high schoolers from our church as babysitters at home when our parents are not available. We have not done daycare type where we leave our child. We find it very expensive but more important than that is the uncertainty in the quality of care.

Joined multiple waitlists?

Did you join multiple childcare waitlists while searching for care?

No

Biggest challenges & their impact

Looking back, what were the biggest childcare challenges (e.g., long waiting times, affordability, quality, location, etc.) your family faced? How did these challenges impact your work and family life?

We did put ourselves on a waitlist but when ended up getting we had already adopted other solutions so we also concluded that its not reliable.

One thing to change

If you could change one thing about today's childcare system, what would it be? (For example: access, affordability, quality, employer or university support, emergency backup care, or anything else.)

Maybe a community based platform for daycare kind of like airbnb- we feel more comfortable leaving our kids with other families that also have little kids then in return we would be happy to watch their kids and rotate. If there were 3 families willing to rotate as daycare, our incentives are aligned too! I take care of your child how i would like you to take care of mine. The monetary incentive-based of traditional daycare is challenging because sometimes that incentive is not high enough to ensure the same quality a fellow parent would provide to your child. Here reputation is the currency and the more reputable you are the more options you also have to leave your child with.
