July 21, 2026Childcare solutions used & satisfaction
If you needed childcare in the past 10 years, what childcare solutions (e.g., childcare center/nursery, nanny, family support, adjusted work schedule, etc.) did your family end up using? Are you satisfied with the availability of childcare options in your country of employment, why or why not?
Nanny, family support, adjusted work schedule. Child care options are reasonable after age of 2. There are hardly any child care centers catering to kids below 2 years of age. It is getting increasingly difficult to find nannies, we somehow found a nanny after much search.
Joined multiple waitlists?
Did you join multiple childcare waitlists while searching for care?
No
Biggest challenges & their impact
Looking back, what were the biggest childcare challenges (e.g., long waiting times, affordability, quality, location, etc.) your family faced? How did these challenges impact your work and family life?
Affordable and experienced nannies are increasingly difficult to find. Created much stress for us, the nanny who we finally found was constantly trying to make us pay even more (though we were already paying her well).
One thing to change
If you could change one thing about today's childcare system, what would it be? (For example: access, affordability, quality, employer or university support, emergency backup care, or anything else.)
1. University support - we do not have child care center in the university at the moment. Would have been much easier if there was a child care center in the university. 2. Emergency backup care- required when nannies suddenly don't show up.
Additional insights
Are there any additional comments or personal insights you would like to share about childcare?
The difficulty in finding child care options becomes so stressful that at some point we feel a single child is enough. If more people start feeling this way, it not be a good thing in the long run- for the single children, and also fertility rate of the country.
