Childcare solutions used & satisfaction

If you needed childcare in the past 10 years, what childcare solutions (e.g., childcare center/nursery, nanny, family support, adjusted work schedule, etc.) did your family end up using? Are you satisfied with the availability of childcare options in your country of employment, why or why not?

Combination of nanny, preschool, and family. I have three sons, all under 7 years old. Nanny is from 7am-5pm, M-F. She gets sick at times, which causes considerable disruption to our lives. Similar disruptions occur when our kids are sick (because then the nanny doesn't come). My wife and I both work, so we rotate taking off work when the kids and/or nanny are sick. (Sickness happens often because of the ages of the kids). There were other childcare options available (child-care), but I did not use it for convenience reasons.

No

One thing to change

If you could change one thing about today's childcare system, what would it be? (For example: access, affordability, quality, employer or university support, emergency backup care, or anything else.)

I live far away from my university (>1hr commute), so employers support would not have helped. I am deeply fortunate to be able to afford childcare options with my university salary. Regarding emergency backup care - that be wonderful, but I do not see the use case where that would have helped. The reason is that emergency backup care would be needed when the kids are sick and the nanny won't come, but that is the situation where it would feel inappropriate to have anyone in the home apart from family (since it would expose them to sickness).
